IBMS President Debra Padgett has been officially inaugurated as president at a ceremony in London on 3rd February.

The ceremony took place at the IBMS's Headquarters in London following the beginning of Debra's presidency on 1st January 2022.

Debra becomes the 35th IBMS President, the third female president in our history. Her inauguration took place exactly 100 years and one day from when the first women were officially admitted as members into the IBMS.

Before handing over the official presidency chains to Debra, former IBMS President Allan Wilson delivered a speech focusing on his term as president and endorsing Debra.

After receiving her chains of office, Debra commented in her speech:

"I am truly humbled to be elected as president, the pinnacle of my career to date, I'm the product of hard work, continual learning, support, drive and determination, but above all, absolute passion for the job I do every day.
“I'm eager to make the IBMS the best professional body it can be for our members, we're better and stronger together. It's imperative the  we build on our reputation as the leading professional body for Biomedical Science, whilst maintaining our voice with polticians, governments and policymakers across all of the four nations.
I will make entry into this fantastic profession more accessible and highlight career paths for those studying to become Biomedical Scientists. I will always advocate for all our members at all levels they are operating at."

The IBMS would like to offer our congratulations to Debra on her inauguration as our new president and look forward to working closely and supporting her in office.
