Dr Sue Jones named Principal Fellow by HEA
15 March 2021
Congratulations to IBMS Fellow Dr Sue Jones for being named a Principal Fellow by the Higher Education Academy (HEA).

Principal Fellow designation recognises the highest-level of excellence in higher education teaching and is awarded to those who have “a sustained, effective record of strategic impact at institutional, national or international level and [are] committed to wider strategic leadership in teaching” (HEA). This accomplishment follows Dr Sue Jones being recognised as HE Bioscience Teacher of the Year in 2020.

Sue commented on her Principal Fellow HEA accomplishment:

I am thrilled to have been awarded Principal Fellowship (PFHEA) this year. My application represents many years of championing students from widening participation backgrounds at both the University of Bradford and York St John (YSJ) University. As a first in family student myself, I understand the transformative power of higher education and the opportunities it offers. I am dedicated to empowering staff and students and firmly believe that “You can’t be what you can‘t see” (Marian Wright Edelman).

Dr Sue Jones is the Associate Head of School for Biosciences at York St John (YSJ) University and has over 15 years experience of academic programme development and design. She developed YSJ's IBMS accredited Biomedical Science programme from scratch and continues to expand opportunities in biomedical sciences for her students. After only six years, YSJ's Biomedical Science programme is now ranked 16/105 in the Guardian Best UK Universities 2021 league table based on consecutive NSS results.

The IBMS congratulates Dr Sue Jones on her Principal Fellow HEA achievement and thanks her for her ongoing dedication to promoting and progressing the study of biomedical sciences.
