IBMS welcomes Alison Geddis as new President Elect.

IBMS President ElectThe IBMS is pleased to confirm Alison Geddis as the new President Elect of the IBMS. She will be the second female President of the Institute and the first from Northern Ireland. Alison is the Laboratory Services Manager for the Northern Ireland Blood Transfusion Service and has been a practising biomedical scientist for more than 30 years working across cytology, haematology, blood transfusion, stem cell banking and quality. 

Alison said:

“I am a very proud to be a biomedical scientist and take every opportunity to promote biomedical science and all the unseen work of biomedical scientists across the whole of the UK.”

She added that she is hoping to “build and expand on all the fantastic work that the IBMS has achieved and continues to do”.


Alison will take over from Ian Sturdgess as President in January 2018. She is greatly looking forward to learning more about the challenges and opportunities facing the IBMS and the profession, working with the President, Council, IBMS members and stakeholders to support and promote the profession and to continue to develop and maintain high quality services and professional development opportunities to IBMS members.
