Showcasing our members’ work during COVID-19

Showcasing our members’ work during COVID-19
17 August 2020
To highlight the vital role of science and scientists during the pandemic, the Science Council is launching its ‘showcasing science’ campaign.

The call for submissions proved popular with several blogs from IBMS members featuring in the series. To continue in the spirit of this campaign, the IBMS is launching an ongoing COVID-19 Biomedical Blogging series!

The series will mark the particularly crucial role biomedical scientists have played throughout the pandemic – going above and beyond to keep patients safe by carrying out testing while still performing routine work.

We previously heard from a group of histocompatibility and immunogenetics scientists who retrained rapidly in order to meet the demand for COVID-19 testing; microbiologist Cherie Beckett, who served on her NHS incident management team and became involved in public engagement during the lockdown and Staffordshire lecturer Ian Davies who assisted students in placements on the frontline and appeared in the media while still teaching the biomedical science course.

Whatever your story, we’d love to hear about your experiences of being a biomedical scientist during the COVID-19 outbreak and how your role may have changed in light of the situation.

If you would like to take part in this exciting new campaign – send us an email at communications@ibms.org with your name, NHS trust or association of work and the details of the story you would like to share with us.

All the blogs in the Science Council's 'showcasing science' campaign are available here.
