'Super Samples' Game Launch
In a bid to inspire the next generation of healthcare scientists, Claire Cameron, Principal Lead at Healthcare Science, NHS Education for Scotland, and Sarah Smith, Healthcare Science Professional Advisor for The Scottish Government, have collaboratively developed an engaging educational game titled ‘Clashroom Clash - Super Samples.’ This initiative was executed in partnership with Skills Development Scotland and NES.
Developed in collaboration with Scottish Government partners and My World of Work, this interactive game aims to promote careers in Biomedical Science to students across Scotland and beyond.
Launched during last year’s Healthcare Science Week and Biomedical Science Day 2023, Super Samples has already captivated classrooms through interactive sessions led by My World of Work representatives. The game's success has spurred the development of a comprehensive lesson plan, which will soon be accessible on the My World of Work website, broadening its reach and engagement.
The website has a page outlining the career pathway for a Biomedical Scientist, and with the new game accessible to anyone with internet access, this will further improve awareness of the profession.
The web version of the game, previewed at a recent STEM engagement event, received an enthusiastic response from attendees.
The new version of the website is set to go live on June 6th, Biomedical Science Day, and Claire will be hosting promotions nationally throughout NES and NHS Scotland careers to promote the game.
She has also ensured that the lesson plan references the Institute of Biomedical Science and NHS Scotland Careers, the career role of a Biomedical Scientist, as well as Clinical Scientist and Assistant practitioners to ensure school pupils have the correct information and are signposted to the relevant career pathways in Biomedical Science and Healthcare Science roles.
Claire states: 'I think this is a great resource for engagement to be shared nationally and attract our future Biomedical Scientists. It is also very fitting that it will be live on Biomedical Science day for the communications of their new website.'
‘Clashroom Clash - Super Samples’ is designed to work as a valuable resource for schools, offering career advice and promoting awareness of Biomedical Science to the younger generation. With its launch on the widely accessed My World of Work platform, the game is poised to make a significant impact in attracting future scientists to the profession.
